Meet Our Lawyer

With more than 20 years of legal experience, attorney Valerie Gotch Garrett has the knowledge and acumen to deal with almost any type of case — from family law or criminal defense to personal injury or wills.

Her passion for the law began in childhood. "I remember seeing when I was young that there were many people who couldn't afford a lawyer," she says. "I believe that being an attorney is an honorable and important profession, because we make and change both the law and people's lives. I enjoy people having access to justice."

Ms. Gotch Garrett is the first African American woman to become a chair of the Housing Authority Board. She is also a 15th Judicial District Court criminal public defender, a Lafayette airport commissioner, a Louisiana State Bar grader for Civil Code I, a hurricane relief volunteer and a member of numerous other legal and civic organizations.
